Description
Seaweed Spicule Treatment – Microneedling-Style DIY Facial
This is not an everyday face mask. It is a spicule treatment: a microneedling-style facial that uses natural sponge spicules – tiny, needle-like microcrystals – instead of needles. You massage the spicules into your skin with a seaweed solution, then calm and hydrate with a sheet mask. It is an intensive ritual you plan for, used once every week or two.
How it works
Step 1 – Spicule massage: the freeze-dried microcrystal powder is mixed fresh with the seaweed solution and massaged into the skin. The fine spicules work into the top layer of the skin, which is why you will feel tingling and see some redness.
Step 2 – Sheet mask: a moisturizing sheet mask finishes the treatment and helps your skin feel soothed and hydrated.
What’s inside
- Hydrolyzed sponge (spicule microcrystals) – the active part of the massage step
- Green algae (seaweed) extract
- Hyaluronic acid – helps keep dry skin feeling moisturized
- Golden chamomile – a calming botanical
- Tripeptide-1 and dipotassium glycyrrhizinate (from licorice root)
Each treatment set includes
- 1 bottle of seaweed solution (5 ml)
- 1 vial of microcrystal freeze-dried spicule powder (1 g)
How to use
- Start with clean, dry skin. Do a patch test on a small area first.
- Pour the seaweed solution into the powder vial and shake to mix.
- Apply to your face with your fingertips and massage in small circles for 5–10 minutes in total, spending no more than 5 minutes on any one area. Avoid the eyes and lips.
- Add about 25 ml of clean water to the sheet mask, press for about 30 seconds and let it sit for a minute.
- Apply the sheet mask for 15–20 minutes, then rinse and continue with gentle skincare.
How often
Use once every 7–14 days for 4 treatments, then once every 21 days to maintain. Do not use more often.
Good to know before you start
- Tingling during the massage and temporary redness, warmth or mild swelling afterward are normal with spicule treatments. A cool compress can help.
- Slight pinpoint bleeding can occur, especially if you massage too long or too firmly in one area.
- Do not use on sensitive, broken, sunburned or irritated skin, on active breakouts, or if you are using retinoids or exfoliating acids. If you have a skin condition or are pregnant, check with a dermatologist first.
- Skip makeup for 2 days after a treatment, avoid other exfoliants for a few days, and use sunscreen.
- Stop using it if you feel strong burning or irritation that does not settle.
